Automated Script Usage and Validation
In this case study we look at an IT department of a financial services organization with focus on an automated script usage and validation for a large regional bank.

Challenge:
Like many large organizations, regardless of industry, the Bank had a number of scripts created to “automate” certain IT processes, like database expansions, etc. The issue they had was that it required a member of the IT team to run a number of scripts in a particular order in painstaking detail. In addition, when something went wrong, the IT person then had to track down the issue before proceeding. This also meant, in some instances rolling everything back assuming a copy was made. The bank was looking for a way to automate the process and, if possible, remove human intervention.
Solution:
Odyssey was configured to backup, run, audit and validate the running of scripts. Prior to the event, a member of the IT team would set the parameters for the run. Odyssey performed the back-up, ran the proper scripts from the Script Library, validate that all was as it should be. If all was fine, it would forward to the next step. If there was an issue, it would notify the proper member of the IT team to take corrective action and then proceed with the process.
Benefits:
- By automating the running of scripts, the IT team was freed up to do higher level work as opposed to simply running scripts. This allowed for a higher level of job satisfaction in the IT team.
- The IT Team could be assured that the scripts were executed in the proper order, eliminating risk of mistakes.
- With an automated alert to an issue, the IT Team could more quickly address and resolve the issue.
- The actual execution of the scripts and related requested changes occurred more quickly at a lower risk of mistakes allowing the rest of the organization’s requests to be more quickly addressed.
