Challenge:
The Company manually created, printed and distributed a 500 page book that included comprehensive information on product lists, engineering data, recommended applications and detailed specifications for lubes.
The book was distributed annually due to the very time-consuming manual and resource intensive collation process.
Distributors and equipment builders complained about the frequency and accuracy of the information dissemination process.
The Company wanted an automated process for creating the manuals.
Solution:
Odyssey provided an integrated workbench for SMEs to help collate the lubricant product details, technical specs, environmental specs, recommended applications from multiple data sources.
Odyssey data connectors and plug-ins connected all the relevant systems, including Master Product Data, Engineering databases, SAP/ERP and CRM, creating a digital book and a physical books for professional printing.
Ability to publish manual at much higher frequency with product updates, changes in specifications and new application recommendations.
An interactive equipment builder and distributor Odyssey portal was created for instant updates and quick access to product specs.
A new subscription model was created for product manual and specifications to address the needs of the distributors and equipment builders.
Benefits:
- A new revenue source was created for the company, where the distributors and equipment builders were very happy to pay a fee for real-time information versus stale once-a-year information.
- The Company division was converted from a cost center to a revenue center.
- The Division was converted from data creators to information users.
