Challenge:

The Global Company has several ERPs globally that were self-contained with no one “truth”. As a result, part numbers, inventory names, vendor and customer accounts were duplicated and, in some cases, in conflict region by region. The Company was looking for a solution that could pull of the information together in a “single-pane-of-glass” and enforce rules so that duplicates would be eliminated and centralized control could be maintained. Approvals for additions to part numbers, vendors, customers, etc. all required approvals and conformity to ensure data integrity and the desired “single truth/golden record”.

Solution:

Odyssey was selected from amongst 11 other MDM applications reviewed as it provided the highest level of flexibility, incorporated the desired workflow, had a powerful rules engine that would drive exception processing and its simplicity of use. Odyssey was configured to speak to each of the three ERP systems and then started identifying possible duplicates in various data elements. Once the data was cleaned, Odyssey then enforced strict data controls across the global footprint to ensure ongoing data integrity. It also allowed for a more complete view of raw material in flight that could be redirected to where they were needed, based on orders and the proper balancing of the manufacturing floor.

Benefits:

  1. Eliminated the data duplicates and ensure data integrity on an ongoing basis.
  2. Assured, through workflow approvals, that new entries were in fact new and if someone tried to enter a duplicate, that the current object would be presented for use, thereby saving time both by the inputter and future clean-up.
  3. Helped to maximize inventory usage, by providing accurate information of what was in house and in flight so inventory and production line optimization was achieved.
